Suffolk Family Portraits | W.Family Part 2

When it rains it pours. Or so they say. My first session with the W.Family was a bit rushed, racing against time and light, and rain. I was feeling a bit cheated and wanted better, so they were more than gracious enough to get together again. Our goal was to get a few more family shots (unfortunately missing one person from the family) and a few images as a couple. They were brave to come out this afternoon, just hours before hurricane Earl was ready to strike! Oh, yes!

These grandparents are so blessed…yes, I did say grandparents…to have their vibrant grand-daughter stay with them for awhile this summer. They are marvelous grandparents! I see them together and just want to give them a great big hug and hang out with them. Good people. I just know they are going to sorely miss this little girl when she goes back home!

The couple as they are – friendly, down-to-earth:

I love the sweet smile and emotion here:

Oh, this look is more than a thousand words:

And the family shot I just love. Sigh. The casual confidence of grandpa, the sweet gorgeous light falling on grandma and her beautiful smile, and what is *not* to love about this little girl? She can be my model any day!

Family. I love it.

Follow the best | Wedding Photographer, Jasmine Star

Wedding Photography Course with Jasmine Star. Aug 25-29, 2010

This was the most amazing day ever!  I can hardly believe technology has come so far to experience a live workshop with an amazing wedding photographer over the internet.  Folks, it doesn’t stop just there though. This is Jasmine Star. Canon shooter (yeah!), Mac user (oh, yeah!), funny, colorful, fast-talking, confident, and always keeping it real.  Over the next five days she is going to have video cameras following her as she shoots a wedding and broadcasts it LIVE over the INTERNET. Insane? Yes! Amazing and wonderful!? Yes! Glad it’s not me!? YES!?

So, today I sat through the first segment of the live broadcast and loved every second of it.  Jasmine is either a person you love or maybe love to hate (I personally am the first not the later otherwise I wouldn’t be writing about her!).  I have finally found someone that talks faster than me and loves to talk more than me and that makes me feel good.  Anyway, I digress.  If I could follow an international professional photographer from start to finish of a session (or wedding in this case) and learn all I can, why not one of the best?  Jasmine is just that and I can’t believe I will “be” there to do just that!!

No matter what kind of photographer you are, you must not miss this event. Ustream.tv live broadcasting was incredible and Twitter nearly exploded today with the online interaction. I can’t imagine ALL the questions will be answered, even over five days, but I had to laugh at one tweet…

#askjasmine Who is Jasmine and why should I be asking her a question?

Too funny.  I am just so excited for the rest of the week that I can hardly sleep wondering what is going to come next. I can’t imagine the butterflies and anxiety Jasmine feels (as well as the team of CreativeLive who set this all up).  I am just thankful for their vision, bravery, talent, and willingness to help photographers such as myself in such a profound way.

How can it get any better to learn from an astounding pro. Live. Timezones apart!  I have my coffee, snacks, and comfy sweats ready for five days camped out at my computer…. along with 4,000+ viewers that tuned in to watch today.

Learn more about the course at http://creativelive.com/courses/jasmine_star/ and you won’t regret it.

Suffolk Family Portraits | W.Family

It was my first time walking around the Peninsula Town Center in Hampton, Virgina.  Since it started construction about a year or more ago, it has filled with shops and restaurants at the speed of light.  It was a pleasant surprise and lots of fun to shoot the W.Family as we walked about.  Mind you, it was later evening and the rain clouds rushed in, but we faced the challenge and managed to stay dry.

This first image is my absolute favorite from the session. There’s nothing like a daddy-daughter moment! *sigh*

I was especially thankful to Shoe Woo as they allowed us to shoot some images in their shop!  I almost fell over when I saw three leather chairs that were neon green with blue trim that matched their clothing!!  The pictures of this little girl curled up in one of those chairs is enough to melt anyone’s heart! Ok, then men weren’t thrilled to be sitting in a woman’s shoe store (yeah, I can’t blame them), but they showed me where their heart was and did it for this little girl whom they love and adore.

Thanks W.Family! It was so much fun – I hope we can do it again soon when the weather is cooperative!

beezeyeview - Oh, I would love to photography you! You’ll have to get your mom or dad to schedule a portrait session soon!

Dog Days

Meet Nakita (bottom) and Niko (top), miniature Pinchers, owned by my older sister in Michigan.  As you can see, Nakita has a healthy appetite and loves to smash the flower bed to lie in the cool dirt. She probably gets more satisfaction stealing Niko’s food though!  Moxi, my female Boxer, didn’t get along too well with the dogs at first and she remained to do her best to dominate Niko (male). They got their little snarls in and scuffles, but for the most part did quite well during our three day stay recently, living in peace.  Moxi was introduced to lots of dogs on our recent trip and she handled herself quite differently with each one.  She also met Carmel (Golden Retriever), Sisu (American Bulldog), Java (?), and a few neighbor dogs that she barked at from time to time.

Family Day at the Beach

_MG_1159

The usual 95+ degree weather held out all day, up to the very end of the third annual Family Day at the Beach sponsored by Gates of Heaven, Hampton, Virginia. As the final song was sung, the dark clouds rolled in over Buckroe Beach and cooled off those who were left standing. The entire afternoon was a blessing and each group that sang was exceptionally annointed!  There were many people that stopped by the welcome booth and enjoyed the music this year.  It really was wonderful to see the support of the community. If you missed this year’s event, there is always next year!
