Nor’Easter visits again

It is another cold, wet Nor’ Easter this weekend with rain and snow.  It wasn’t enough that Virginia got 3-12″ snow last weekend. The city barely had a moment to get the minimal snow equipment put away before they had to drag it out again this weekend.  Cold weather and bad road conditions leaves majority of the households shut indoors until the roads clear.  Can you believe the schools were shut down three additional days last week?!

Meanwhile, hot chocolate is the perfect beverage at any time of the day when its this cold [ok, by some people's standards its not cold, I know, but we are teetering at the freezing level - hey, I am from Michigan originally, so I have known colder!]. Truth be told, I am getting tired of washing all those sticky coffee mugs! Tonight I had another craving though – loaded homemade nachos!  What do you get with one bag of corn chips, three or four pounds of mixed cheese, tomatoes, onions, and jalapeños? Yeah, mmmm….comfort food.

Signz+Logoz

It is quite exciting to be part of a design that will be a new, significant part of a community. I had the honor of designing a church logo and exterior sign for a newly established church.  The sign will be illuminated at a generous 3′x14′.  Rather than the standard text that is prevalent on many signs, my goal was to keep the essence and elements of the logo itself for the location’s name on the sign. In other words, making the logo the sign.  The last added element was the dove that made the design complete. We are quite happy with the results.

As you drive around your local area, take a closer look at the signs for places of worship and see what stands out from the rest. What makes it interesting, good, bad, boring, ineffective, or superior in your opinion? If you are a designer, do you try to blend and go with the trend or dare to be different?

Baby-baby-baby {birth announcement}

I pulled out a photo library of my youngest child to marvel how quickly she has grown. Rebekah was born nearly six weeks premature, but she was strong and healthy.  In the aftermath of a normal delivery, much less an emergency c-section in a Japanese hospital, there never seems to be any time to create a beautiful birth announcement.  Since I missed the boat over four years ago, I figured I would have some fun and create one now!

If you are expecting, don’t delay planning your newborn session!  The first week of life is the most precious to capture – and I will do all the work for you (the photography, that is!). I’d love to create your special birth announcement.
